ROCK OF OUR STRENGTH
Thursday, October 13, 2011
MEMORIZE:"Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:" (Isaiah 17:10).

READ: Isaiah 17:10-11

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." (1 Cor. 10:4). One of the titles of our Lord Jesus Christ is Rock. Rock symbolizes strength and stability. "Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:" (Is. 17:10). He is the Rock of our strength. One implication of this is that we cannot achieve any feat without Him. He is the Strength behind His children.

No wonder He told His disciples in John 15:5, "... without me you can do nothing". Your embarking on any project without the backing of the Rock of your strength, will definitely end up in frustration and disappointment. In Isaiah 17:10-11, the children of Israel forsook the Rock of their strength; all their efforts yielded sorrow and grief. When you know you cannot succeed without Him, why do you embark on projects, ministries and plans without His direction? Another implication of Jesus as the Rock of our strength is the reality that even after we are saved, we have very limited strength. This is deliberate.

God gave each of His children very little strength, and kept the rest to Himself, so that whenever we are confronted by any situation beyond our strength, we will invite Him into it. As we do this, it will compel us to depend on Him always. Also, this knowledge of our fragile strength will always help us to make our ways right with Him. Relying on the Rock of our strength makes us humble.

Those who fail to do so are proud and God relates with the proud from a distance. You would be amazed to know that there are some believers who have become so self-governing that there is hardly any issue that they involve the Lord. Virtually all they do is from their limited strength, wisdom and effort. But that is an act of pride and foolishness. Any area of your life you keep from the Rock of our strength will definitely be lacking in many ways. You cannot get the best of plans or decisions by shutting God out of the equation of your life. Is Jesus the Rock of your strength?

PRAYER POINT Lord, from today, I want You, in every area of my life, to be the Rock of my strength.

Don't make a permanent decision over a temporary matter.
What you are going through is temporary, Storm doesn't last forever.

Good times are ahead, quitters don't win and  WINNERS don't quit.
BE ENCOURAGED.
